Manchester United to sign Emre Can?

Manchester United could reportedly battle it out with Juventus to sign Liverpool midfielder Emre Can. The Germany international has recently turned down a new Reds contract, and this leaves him with just nine months left on his present deal.

Juventus' director general Beppe Marotta recently hinted that the Bianconeri could re-enter negotiations for Can in the New Year, but according to Corriere dello Sport, they are likely to face stiff competition from the Red Devils.

Jose Mourinho is said to have earmarked the German as a potential replacement for Michael Carrick, who is likely to retire from professional football at the end of the campaign.

Can is currently holding out for nearly double of his £55,000-a-week wages, and this is something the Reds are unwilling to match, given his inconsistent performances on the playing field.

The Confederations Cup winner was one of the leading performers for Liverpool in the month of August, but he has since struggled to exhibit a similar dominance from the centre of the park.
