Fellaini close to Red Devils deal

Manchester United are reportedly confident of committing Marouane Fellaini to a new long-term deal at Old Trafford. The Belgium international has been in top form for the Red Devils since the start of the season with four goals and an assist to his name.

Fellaini, 29, was largely underused in Jose Mourinho's first season in charge, but he has transformed into a different player this term, providing valuable goals in the early part of the season.

There were initial doubts over how United could adapt in the injury absence of Paul Pogba, but the former Evertonian has proved the perfect foil for Nemanja Matic at the heart of the midfield.

According to The Mirror, talks are still at an initial stage over an extension, but United are confident of prolonging the midfielder's stay by a couple of years at the least.

United normally tend to offer one-year rolling contracts for players approaching their 30th birthday, but they appear to have scrapped this rule for Fellaini, who will earn a two-year deal with the option of an additional 12 months.
