Meyer to replace Jack Wilshere?

Arsenal are reportedly lining up a contract offer for Schalke's Max Meyer as they prepare to part ways with contract rebel Jack Wilshere in the summer.

Both players are yet to sort out deals with their respective clubs, and it appears likely that the pair could be available on free transfers in three months' time.

According to The Telegraph, the Germany international is being seen as a probable replacement for Wilshere, should the 26-year-old fail to agree upon fresh terms at the Emirates.

Meyer started his professional career as more of an attacking midfielder, but during the current campaign, he has excelled in the central midfield position.

The German has made 27 appearances for Schalke through the season, and he has previously snubbed talks over a proposed extension in Gelsenkirchen.

On the other hand, Wilshere has stated that he is committed to the Gunners cause, although he is not in agreement with the club's present contract offer which includes a 25 percent reduction on his wages.
