Chelsea plan move for Newcastle United captain
Chelsea are prepared to lodge a summer attempt to sign Newcastle United skipper Jamaal Lascelles. The 24-year-old has been instrumental towards the Magpies' push for Premier League safety, and his performances have supposedly caught the eye of the Blues hierarchy.
According to The Mirror, the Blues have been impressed by the player's leadership and defensive skills, and this has seen him being compared to a young John Terry.
Moreover, the centre-back has also proved a significant threat from set-pieces, and he managed to score a couple of late winners for the Magpies early on in the campaign.
As per The Mirror, Chelsea value the central defender at around £30m, and they are set to test the Magpies' resolve when the transfer window reopens in July.
Newcastle United claimed their third successive win on their home turf on Saturday, and this has put them in a strong position to beat the drop with a seven-point advantage over 18th-placed Southampton.
