Manchester United goalkeeper hints at summer exit
Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has stressed that he cannot 'wait around forever' in order to earn a first-team opportunity with Manchester United.
The 25-year-old has been with the Red Devils since the age of 10, and he has gone onto graduate through their youth system only to earn playing time with six different clubs on loan.
Johnstone's best spell has come with Aston Villa during the current campaign, where he has made 41 appearances, and he has now acknowledged that he may pursue a permanent exit from Old Trafford.
"If you leave, then the one downside is that you haven't done that despite being there since you were 10. I'd have liked to have done it, but you've got the world's best goalkeeper, David de Gea, at the club and you can't wait around forever," he told The Guardian.
Johnstone had his contract extended until the summer of 2019, via a clause in his deal, but this has supposedly been done by United to garner a decent sum from his sale.
