Arsenal commit defender to a new long-term deal

Holding extends Arsenal contract

Arsenal have reportedly committed Rob Holding to a new long-term contract following his impressive progress at the club over the past 18 months.

The 22-year-old joined the Gunners from Bolton Wanderers during the summer of 2016 and he has since gone on to make 42 appearances for the club across all competitions.

The Capital outfit did not reveal the period of Holding's latest deal but congratulated the Englishman on his 'long-term' extension, a club statement read: "We would like to congratulate Rob on his new contract and look forward to his continued contribution in the coming years."

The centre-back made a mark for the Gunners during the backend of last season where he played an instrumental role in the club's FA Cup success in a three-man backline.

He has, however, not enjoyed a similar run in the first-team this term with concerns over his movement against fast-paced attackers. Nevertheless, he has been tied up to a fresh contract and has the chance to impress under the next Gunners boss.

Arsene Wenger announced that he would be ending his 22-year association with the north London club this summer and the hierarchy have already begun their search for a suitable successor.
