Arsenal, Liverpool vying for Southampton goalkeeper

Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly among the contenders to pursue the signature of Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy during the summer.
The 28-year-old started the campaign as the deputy to Fraser Forster but over the course of the season, he has become the first-choice, making 17 league appearances as the Saints beat the drop.
According to The Mirror, the Gunners are lining up a replacement for veteran Petr Ceh and McCarthy has been identified as one of the prime candidates for the role.
Meanwhile, the ex-Crystal Palace is also of interest to Liverpool with doubts lingering over the long-term futures of goalkeeping duo Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.
McCarthy joined the Saints from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2016 and he has since amassed 32 appearances for the south Coast outfit whilst keeping 11 clean sheets.
Over the years, the 28-year-old has generally acted as the second-choice keeper wherever he has been but his sublime showing in the backend of the 2017/18 season seems to have attracted plenty of big-club interest.
