Stoke City are reportedly planning an approach for Benik Afobe despite the striker only recently joining Wolverhampton Wanderers on a permanent basis.

The 25-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with the Wolves from Bournemouth and his performances were impressive enough to earn him a permanent move.

Despite this, he could potentially leave the club in the coming weeks with Stoke boss Gary Rowett having earmarked the striker as his number one target, The Sun reports.

The DR Congo international netted six goals in 16 outings for Wolves during their promotion-winning campaign and Rowett is now keen on signing him to enhance Stoke's promotion charge next term.

Stoke dropped into the Championship after a decade-long spell in the English top-flight and their demotion is expect to witness the exit of several senior players.

Irrespective of this, they are considered as one of the favourites to return to the Premier League at the first coming. The likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Joe Allen and Badou Ndiaye are widely expected to leave the club.
