Manchester United confirm signing of Portuguese teenager from FC Porto

Dalot signs for United

Manchester United have announced their second signing of the summer transfer window with defender Diogo Dalot joining from Portuguese outfit FC Porto.

Reports last month suggested that United had reached an agreement over a £19m sum with the Primeira Liga outfit and the club have now officially confirmed the teenager's arrival following a successful medical.

"Diogo is an extremely talented young defender with all the qualities to quickly become a great player for this club," Mourinho told the club's official website.

The 19-year-old is understood to have signed a five-year contract with the Mancunian giants with the option of a further 12 months and he is likely to compete with Antonio Valencia for the right-back role next term.

The Portuguese youth international is also comfortable slotting into the left side of the defence and his arrival is likely to spell doubts over the long-term future of Luke Shaw.

Dalot is United's second recruit of the transfer window after they confirmed an agreement to sign Brazilian midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk last evening.
