Lampard: It is too early to use VAR

Frank Lampard news

Former England international, Frank Lampard has said that he is not in support of the use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) at this year's World Cup in Russia.

The Chelsea Legend famously had a goal disallowed in the second round of the 2010 World Cup against Germany in South Africa.

The new Derby County coach believes that the VAR will cause problems at this year's tournament in Russia.

“Goalline technology was a no brainer with that goal of mine," he said, the Sun reports.

“But VAR is going to be a huge discussion point. It’s too early. We’ve not got it nailed down yet.

“Different refs in different countries are having problems. We are not using it in the Premier League.

“I just think we’re going to cause ourselves problems in the most important football tournament in the world."

Despite the introduction of the VAR into European football, there are still controversies emanating from games.

The World Cup, may not be the right place to use the technology, but it is expected that with constant use, it is highly likely that the VAR will be a success in the long run.
