AS Roma to beat Arsenal to Bernd Leno?

Roma join chase for Leno

AS Roma are reportedly prepared to compete with Arsenal for the signature of Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno

The Germany international has been widely tipped to join the Gunners this summer with SportBild recently claiming that the club have agreed to trigger his £22m release clause.

However, according to Premium Sport, they could now face fresh competition from the Giallorossi, who are likely to sanction the exit of Alisson Becker this summer.

Real Madrid are currently leading the race to sign the Brazilian in a £70m deal and his departure may witness Roma switch their attention towards Leverkusen's Leno.

Gunners boss Unai Emery is presently working on a limited pre-sales budget of just £50m and the club could be forced to pull out of the race, should Roma begin a bidding battle.

Leno has been with Leverkusen for the past seven seasons and during this period, he has missed just six Bundesliga matches for the club. He was recently selected in Germany's preliminary squad for the World Cup.
