Dejan Lovren reveals why Modric is underrated
Croatian defender Dejan Lovren has said that his teammate Luka Modric is being underrated because he is not from Germany and Spain.
Lovren went ahead to say that the Real Madrid player would probably be a Ballon d’Or winner if he came from those countries.
Modric has been in fine for at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia, helping his side qualify for the second round after beating Nigeria and Argentina by two goals and three goals to nothing respectively.
The former Tottenham Hotspur man also scored a sublime goal from outside the 18 yards box against Argentina.
"Modric would probably be getting more attention than he is right now if he was a German or Spanish player. He would maybe even be a Ballon d’Or winner," the Liverpool defender said.
Modric has no doubt being in terrific for Croatia, helping them provide a smooth link between defence and attack.
He will definitely be a key figure for his country if they are to go very far in this competition.
Modric made eight appearances for Real Madrid in last season's UEFA Champions League as they won it for the third time in a row.
