Asensio backs De Gea for World Cup remainder

Spanish midfielder Marco Asensio has said that he is sure goalkeeper David De Gea will bring back his Manchester United form as Spain head into the knockout phase of the World Cup in Russia.

De Gea was at fault for one of Ronaldo's goal in the first game against Portugal, and has conceded a total of five goals from six shots fired at his his goal, the Business Standard reports.

De Gea has uncharacteristically stood without making an attempt when some of the goals have been scored.

"I am sure that we will see the level he has displayed during the season here at the World Cup," he said.

De Gea won the Premier League Golden Glove after keeping 18 clean sheets for Manchester United who finished second behind Manchester City.

Spain will face hosts Russia in the round of 16 after finishing top of group B. Portugal will face Uruguay who came first in group A.

It is expected that Spain will make it past Russia, but anything can happen as the 2010 world champions have not been at their very best.
