Buffon joins PSG

Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon has joined Paris Saint-Germain on an initial one-year contract.

The Italian goalkeeper has left his home country for the first time in his professional career and the move may end up being his final one before retiring from the game.

"It is with a great feeling of happiness that I join Paris Saint-Germain," Buffon told PSG's official website. "For the first time in my career, I am leaving my country and only a project this ambitious could have encouraged me to make such a decision."

The 40-year-old failed to win the Champions League during his 17 seasons with the Bianconeri and he now has the opportunity to challenge for the same with Les Parisiens, who have spent big on world-class recruits over the past 12 months.

Buffon is expected to compete with Alphonse Areola for the number one role next term and the move may probably witness the departure of Kevin Trapp from Parc des Princes.

The Germany international hardly got a look-in during his third season with Paris Saint-Germain last term and he is likely to push for a fresh challenge elsewhere.
