Matteo Darmian news

Benfica are interested in bringing Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian on loan ahead of the new season, The Sun reports.

Darmian has been linked with a move to various clubs this summer and Benfica are the latest to join the chase for the 28-year-old.

With one year remaining in his current United deal, the Portuguese club want to bring him on a season-long loan deal.

Benfica are reportedly willing to spend a huge amount on the player despite the fact that his wages are quite high.

The player's agent recently said that it is unlikely the player will leave this summer but other news surrounding the Italian suggests the opposite.

Despite having a good pre-season so far and with injuries to other defenders, United have not made moves to stop any club from signing the former Torino man.

Earlier in the transfer window, United completed the signing of Diogo Dalot from FC Porto. The 19-year-old is like a long term replacement for Darmian and Antonio Valencia but he is currently injured till September.
