Sarri explains reason for ignoring Loftus-Cheek

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has admitted that it was a tactical decision to leave Ruben Loftus-Cheek out of the matchday squad versus Arsenal.

The England international played a cameo role during the opening day win over Huddersfield Town but he was entirely ignored for the London derby versus the Gunners.

Speaking regarding the same, Sarri confirmed that the decision was rather tactical and he preferred to have more wingers than midfielders for the visit of Arsenal.

"It depends on the position on the pitch. I prefer to have on the bench two wingers, and only one midfielder. So it depends on this. Not any other situation," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

Regardless of the decision, the Blues continued their winning ways with a second straight league win under Sarri but the defensive performance against the Gunners was far from impressive.

The Blues looked vulnerable during the backend of the first half where they could have quite easy lost the game but poor finishing from the Gunners eventually allowed them to secure a 3-2 triumph on the day.
