Fred confirms Arsenal legend played big part in Manchester United move
Brazilian midfielder Fred has confirmed that former Arsenal star Gilberto Silva played a key role in convincing him to join Manchester United this summer.
Fred had attracted interest from a host of European clubs including Manchester City this year after starring for Shakhtar Donetsk during the 2017/18 Champions League campaign.
However, United were the ones who eventually secured his signature and Fred has now credited his representative and compatriot Silva for helping him make the choice.
"Gilberto was a top midfielder who played for Arsenal. But he has a lot of respect for Manchester United, who are obviously a big club here in England. We decided it would be a good move for me," he told United's official website.
Fred has featured in both games for Manchester United since the start of the campaign but he has yet to make a meaningful impression with the Red Devils not having the best of beginnings.
Jose Mourinho's side did manage to win the league opener against Leicester City but they have since suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion.
