Dembele to miss Celtic vs Rangers game

Celtic striker Moussa Dembele will not play a part in the Scottish Champions' game this weekend, after a move to French club Lyon had been blocked by his club. The talented forward had been hoping to make a move to Ligue 1 after Lyon had a 35 million euro transfer offer rejected for the player.

Brendan Rodgers spoke of Dembele's situation, saying: "At this time of season there is always a narrative around players and agents trying to force moves. It is disappointing. Disappointed if it was (aimed) at myself."

Dembele had been seen posting messages on Twitter saying that someone at the club had broken a promise and that the forward had been forced to stay at Celtic Park despite wanting a move elsewhere.

The 22-year-old is now "highly unlikely" to take part in this weekend's crucial game against bitter rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premier League.

Today the transfer window will close for European sides, leaving Dembele out of luck as he seeks a move to another club outside of Scotland.
