Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has indicated his desire to keep hold of first-team trio Luke Shaw, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera beyond the expiry of their contracts next summer.

Shaw has been a revelation for United since the start of the season and he has already contributed a goal and an assist to the team's cause.

Despite this, he is said to be in no hurry regarding a contract extension and he is prepared to wait until the final weeks of the campaign to decide on his future.

Meanwhike, United are yet to make any moves towards committing Herrera and Mata to new contracts and this has intensified speculation over their futures with Athletic Bilbao and Valencia respectively keen on their services.

Speaking ahead of the Watford game, Mourinho was optimistic that the trio would follow Marouane Fellaini in extending their contracts with the Old Trafford outfit.

He said: "I hope they (Shaw, Herrera, Mata) will stay. We had a similar conversation last season about Marouane [Fellaini] and I was always saying I hope he stays, I believe he stays."

Mata is expected to make the matchday squad for tomorrow's late kick-off at Watford but both Shaw and Herrera are set to miss out after being excluded from the travelling party.

Shaw has been left home as a pre-caution after his head collision on international duty with England. Herrera, on the other side, is said to have sustained a minor injury in midweek training.
