United failed with summer bid for Bonucci

Italy international Leonardo Bonucci is said to have snubbed the prospect of joining Manchester United from AC Milan during the recent transfer window.

Bonucci had made his mind up to leave the Rossoneri after just a solitary season and this had supposedly caught the eye of Jose Mourinho, who had been eager to add more experience within his backline.

However, The Sun reports that the club's attempt went in vain with the central defender opting for a return to Juventus after just a season away from them.

United are said to have therefore tried to sign Diego Godin from Atletico Madrid but their efforts were of no use once more after the Uruguayan agreed a new contract with the Europa League holders.

Aside from the duo, United are also understood to have failed with August moves to sign Leicester City's Harry Maguire and Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng and the latter recently confirmed that he declined the Red Devils approach.
