Arsenal are reportedly in contention to acquire the signature of midfielder Juan Mata from Manchester United amid the uncertainty regarding the Spaniard's future.

Mata made a vital impact off the bench in midweek after his splendid free-kick contributed to United's 2-1 comeback triumph over Juventus in the Champions League.

Despite this, his future remains a talking point with United yet to offer him a contract beyond next summer and according to The Mirror, the Gunners may seek to pounce on his services.

Mata has scored 42 goals and contributed a further 34 assists for Manchester United since joining them from Chelsea during the winter of 2014.

He has previously shared a strong relationship with manager Unai Emery while working together at Valencia between 2008 and 2011 and he could fancy a reunion with his urge to remain in the Premier League.

Mata is likely to feature in some capacity for United this weekend where they are scheduled to make the trip across town to tackle arch-rivals and league leaders Manchester City.
