Darmian set for Italy return?

Serie A side Lazio have reportedly set their sights on pursuing the services of Matteo Darmian from Manchester United during the winter transfer window.

The Italy international had been desperate to leave the Red Devils last summer but he was denied to do so after none of his suitors matched their asking price.

Darmian has since featured in just the league opener under Jose Mourinho and according to Corriere dello Sport, he could head through exit door in the New Year.

The report adds that Lazio are among the prime contenders to acquire his signature, though they are reluctant to meet United's £20m price tag for the moment.

Darmian has struggled to cement a regular role with United since his arrival from Torino three years ago but he has nevertheless attracted regular interest from home with his versatility to play across the defence.

He has failed to come off the bench in his previous 10 matches with United with Ashley Young and Luke Shaw preferred on the right and left side of the backline respectively.
