United keen on signing Pellegrini

Manchester United have reportedly opened negotiations with the representative of Lorenzo Pellegrini as they seek to lure the midfielder from Roma in January.

The Italy international has been in impressive form for the Giallorossi during the ongoing campaign and he has already contributed two goals and five appearances for the club across all competitions.

According to Corriere dello Sport, his good run of form has caught the attention of the Red Devils, who are understood to have already held a dialogue with the player's agent.

It is added that they are more than willing to match the affordable £26m release clause on the player's contract with Jose Mourinho aiming to add more creativity in the centre of the park.

Pellegrini, who has been capped by Italy on nine occasions, is likely to receive double of his current £20,000-a-week wages, should he make the switch to Old Trafford this winter.

Meanwhile, Roma are said to be pushing ahead to commit the midfielder to a fresh deal in an attempt to remove the escape clause present in his existing contract.
