United looking into winter move for Manolas

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly weighing up an approach to sign Roma's Kostas Manolas when the transfer window reopens.

The 27-year-old has been with the Giallorossi for the past four years and during this period, he has racked more than 180 appearances across all competitions.

Despite this, he has regularly been associated with a potential move away from the Serie A and according to Corriere dello Sport, United are keeping a close eye on the defender's proceedings.

Manolas is presently said to have an affordable release clause of £31m on his current deal and United are seemingly prepared to trigger the sum in order to lure him to Old Trafford.

Still, the deal has its complications with the Giallorossi already opening up talks over a new contract with the Greek which would also erase the current buy-out figure.

Mourinho is understood to be desperate for a central defensive signing this winter, having witnessed his team keep just one clean sheet from the opening 12 league matches.
