De Gea set for United extension?

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is reportedly edging towards signing a new long-term contract with the Old Trafford outfit.

The Spain international has been with the Red Devils since the summer of 2011 but of late, there has been the speculation that he is contemplating over his future.

However, according to Manchester Evening News, that does not remain the case and United are optimistic that the 28-year-old will pen a fresh long-term deal with the club.

De Gea currently has a contract which expires at the end of the season but United have the assurance of extending his deal for another year by means of an extension clause.

The Spaniard recently produced a sublime save during United's 1-0 Champions League win over Young Boys and following the game, he was heavily praised by Jose Mourinho for his performance.

The Portuguese tactician also highlighted that the goalkeeper has no problems extending his contract with the club and progress could be made in the near future.
