Unai Emery reacts to Mesut Ozil's performance against BATE Borisov
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has spoken positively about the performance of Mesut Ozil against BATE Borisov, although he has refused to guarantee him a regular starting role.
The Gunners were trailing BATE 1-0 after the first leg of the Europa League round of 32 but they managed to overturn the deficit and progress with a 3-0 triumph at the Emirates Stadium.
Following the game, Emery was impressed with the showing of Ozil but stressed that the German must show the same application in training to enhance his gametime.
Meanwhile, the Spanish tactician added that no player can take his place for granted and the same goes for Ozil, who does not have the assurance of regular starts.
“Today he showed what he wants. If he is available, like the last two weeks, we are going to play a lot of matches and maybe sometimes we need him in the starting XI and sometimes on the bench because we have a lot of players to also help us," he said.
Arsenal return to Premier League action this weekend where they are scheduled to host Southampton. A victory could take them into the top four, should United drop points against Liverpool during the gameweek.
