Manchester United to lose David de Gea?

United struggling to commit De Gea to new contract

Manchester United are reportedly struggling to commit goalkeeper David de Gea to a new long-term deal despite agreeing to match the goalkeeper's demands for a £350,000-a-week contract.

The 28-year-old has been locked in contract discussions with the Red Devils in recent months but so far, there has been no breakthrough in terms of the renewal.

According to Evening Standard, United are prepared to make De Gea one of the best-paid players in the Premier League with wages of around £350,000-a-week on the negotiation table.

Still, they have not managed to find the breakthrough with his super-agent Jorge Mendes and it is suggested that the inability to negotiate the broker fees could scupper the proposed agreement.

De Gea's current deal with United expires at the end of next season and the club may consider selling him to the highest bidder, should the negotiations prolong until the summer.

The Spaniard recently became the second United player after Peter Schmeichel to keep 100 clean sheets in the Premier League. He has done so after keeping shutouts in three successive league matches.
