Manchester United are reportedly among the high-profile clubs monitoring the situation of Ivan Rakitic with Barcelona considering his probable sale in the summer.

Rakitic has managed over 250 appearances for the Catalan giants over the past four-and-a-half seasons and he has remained a regular starter under Ernesto Valverde in the current campaign.

However, his future with the club remains under question following the recent agreement to sign Frenkie de Jong and it is claimed that the Dutchman's arrival in the summer, should pave way for Rakitic's exit.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter Milan have already made contact with Barcelona regarding a possible move for Rakitic, who could be sold to balance their financial books in the summer.

The Italian publication has added that United could have their say in the player's pursuit after previously courting an interest when Jose Mourinho was at the helm of things.

Rakitic has more than three years remaining on his current contract and he has previously indicated that he would prefer to honour the deal, should the choice be given to him.
