Manchester United and Real Madrid may receive a boost for the summer with Inter Milan prepared to sanction the sale of Mauro Icardi in a cut-price deal.

The Argentine has recently declined to sign a new contract with the Nerazzurri and this has seen him stripped from the captaincy while being ignored from the first-team picture.

According to Marca, the Nerazzurri are pretty much in a helpless situation with the striker, who has seemingly made his mind up to pursue a fresh challenge away from the club.

It is added that the player's intention may force them to come down from their previous £100m asking price, and they could accept a fee in the region of £34m and £43m for his sale in the summer.

Icardi has netted nearly 125 goals for the Nerazzurri in the past five-and-a-half years but he has recently become a villain among the club's faithful amid the rift with the club's hierarchy.

Real Madrid and Manchester United are understood to be monitoring the player's proceedings while Juventus have already stated their intention to sign Icardi, who has 16 months remaining on his Inter deal.
