Manchester United could face a bidding battle for Mauro Icardi as Real Madrid are prepared to offer as much as £86m for the Inter Milan striker.

The Nerazzurri are seemingly ready to sanction the Argentine's sale at the end of the season following a disagreement over terms regarding a contract renewal.

According to Marca, the Red Devils hold a keen interest in signing the former Inter captain but they are likely to face strong competition from the reigning European champions.

It is added that Los Blancos could be willing to bid as high as £86m for the marksman which may hamper United's prospects of acquiring his services in the summer.

Icardi, who has netted 122 goals in his Nerazzurri career, has been earmarked as the prime choice to replace Karim Benzema in the striker's position at Real Madrid.

Juventus have also made their interest in Icardi public in recent weeks but Inter Milan are likely to avoid offloading their striker to a direct league competitor.
