Romero leading candidate to replace De Gea in goal for United

Argentina international Sergio Romero could be handed with the number one duties at Manchester United, should David de Gea part ways with the club this summer.

Romero has been with the Red Devils for the past four seasons and during this period, he has mostly featured in the Cup competitions with De Gea being the first-choice for the Premier League duties.

However, the club currently find themselves in a position where De Gea could be heading through the exit door and The Mail reports that Romero could take up the number one role.

United have been linked with Jasper Cillessen and Andre Onana in the past few days but they seem prepared to stick with Romero for the main shot-stopper role, should De Gea make way.

De Gea has just 13 months remaining on his current contract with the club and his reluctance to pen a new deal has seen him linked with a big-money move to Paris Saint-Germain.
