Ramos defends Defoe sale
Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has defended the club's decision to sell Jermain Defoe to Portsmouth for £7 million, as Defoe has sparked back in to life at Pompey. Ramos has said he had no other alternative but to sell.
"The situation came from the problem that we had four forwards of a magnificent level and one of them had to go," said Ramos. "Due to his contractual situation it was he that went, as he wasn't prepared to sign another contract.
"We tried to negotiate with him to sign a new contract but he wasn't interested in that."
Ramos is believed to be back in the market for another striker this summer.
