The 26-year-old has experienced plenty of ups and downs in the past few years but he has impressed in recent campaign with seven goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga.

According to Bild, the Gunners are keeping tabs on the position of Gotze, who could be available for a bargain price with his Dortmund contract expiring in 13 months' time.

The same publication states that the north London club are prepared to match the German's wage demands with manager Unai Emery keen on pursuing an attacking midfielder ahead of next season.

The 2014 World Cup winner has been with Dortmund for the past three campaigns after making the comeback from Bayern Munich. He has previously suffered with health problems but appears to have shed the concern in the past 12 months.
