City express interest in Koulibaly

Manchester City are reportedly set to compete with Manchester United in the race to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly this summer.

The Citizens recently celebrated their second Premier League crown on the bounce and they are now expected to make a few additions to continue their title defence next term.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Mancunian giants are aiming to pursue a central defender after witnessing the departure of captain Vincent Kompany on a free transfer.

The same publication claims that Koulibaly has been identified as the prime choice to strengthen the heart of the backline and the club are willing to spend around £85m to pursue the Senegalese.

Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has recently said that he has little ambition of parting ways with the defender, but the Serie A side may still be tempted to accept a significant package for his sale.

United have been linked with a move for the Senegalese in the past, but the Red Devils are presently said to be reluctant to offer more than £60m for the former Genk defender.
