Gelson Martins swaps Atletico Madrid for Monaco
Monaco have agreed a transfer for Gelson Martins from Atletico Madrid, having persuaded the Portuguese forward to extend his loan stay at the club and sign a permanent deal. The player will arrive for a fee of around 27 million euros at the Stade Louis II.
The impressive striker scored three goals in his first four games for the club in February and caught the eye under his new manager Leonardo Jardim. Monaco have opted to make a transfer deal permaennt and officially announced the move in an interview with the player on the club's website.
"I am very happy to be able to join AS Monaco permanently and I am now very much looking forward to seeing the group again in preparation for the upcoming season. Despite the difficult situation, we managed to show some good things last season and I will do everything to help the club achieve its goals this season."
At Atletico the player had been informed by the club's coach Diego Simeone that he could leave the club on a permanent basis in the summer.
