Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Chelsea for the permanent signing of striker Alvaro Morata.

The Spaniard joined Atleti on an 18-month loan in January but there were concerns that the Blues may recall him this summer, should the Madrid giants decline to finalise a permanent deal.

Amidst this, the La Liga outfit have decided to purchase the former Real Madrid man on a permanent basis for £50m and the deal will become active at the conclusion of the striker's temporary contract.

"Agreement with @ChelseaFC over the transfer of @AlvaroMorata from July 1, 2020. The striker will play at our club on loan this season and the move will become permanent ahead of the 2020-2021 season," read a tweet on their official Twitter account.

Morata managed just six goals from 17 appearances for Atleti during the backend of the previous season, but the club have still decided to cement his long-term future, given the expected departure of Antoine Griezmann.

Griezmann has already confirmed that he won't be with the Madrid-based side beyond the summer transfer window and Barcelona have been widely touted to secure his signature.
