Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning a late attempt to beat Manchester United to the signing of Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

The Portugal international has been heavily linked with the Red Devils and reports have recently claimed that the club have agreed a deal in principle for his transfer.

However, according to O Jogo, that does not appear the case and Spurs have sent representatives to Lisbon in order to make a move of their own for the playmaker.

Elsewhere, it is claimed that the Champions League finalists have already failed with a £41m bid for the 24-year-old and they need to up their bid to at least £59.3m to convince Sporting into a sale.

Fernandes, who was part of Portugal's Nations League-winning side, contributed 32 goals and 18 assists for Sporting across all competitions during a stellar campaign last term.

He has been a regular presence for the team in the pre-season friendlies and has been backed to play the Portuguese Super Cup against Benfica this weekend before considering a fresh challenge.
