Boujellab: one of German football's best young talents

Nassim Boujellab has emerged through the ranks at Gelsenkirchen side Schalke in recent years, having impressed for the club's second string side the 20-year-old now finds himself in the club's first team squad. Boujellab, who is comfortable playing anywhere in the midfield but his preferred position is in a central role, has already appeared for Morocco's youth international team.



The talented youngster, who appeared 7 times in the Bundesliga during the 2018-19 campaign, is expected to play for the club on a regular basis this year as Schalke 04 look to return back from the brink after several disappointing campaigns.

The player caught the eye in Schalke 04's B team, scoring 14 goals in 20 games from midfield and demonstrating a particularly good knack of scoring from distance and a great range of passing with an eye for an assist.

“It’s always a good sign for everyone involved with the club when a player is able to come up through the ranks,” said Schalke's sporting director Jochen Schneider when asked about the player's progression in recent times. “I’d like to thank all the coaches, advisors and teammates that have supported and helped Nassim during his career so far. We all hope that he’ll be able to be successful in the Bundesliga as well.”

Having made his first assist in March of this year, the player commented on his performance: “It’s a good feeling to have gotten my first assist. That’s the kind of moment you work your entire life to achieve."

Boujellab has a contract with Schalke 04 until 2022 and has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, with the Bavarian club looking for a creative talent to add to their central midfield ranks having missed out on a deal to sign Kai Havertz.
