Spain international Inaki Williams has confirmed that he turned down advances from Manchester United prior to penning a long-term contract with Athletic Bilbao.

The 25-year-old has been with the Basque outfit since the summer of 2014 and during this period, he has contributed 50 goals from 207 appearances across all competitions.

Earlier this summer, it had been claimed that the Red Devils were keen on signing him as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku but the deal never came to fruition even after the Belgian parted ways with the club.

Speaking to Cadena Ser, Williams has now confirmed that there was indeed interest from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side but he had no thoughts of leaving the La Liga outfit.

"I had contact from Manchester United but I cannot tell you who it was," he said. "My number one option has always been to stay at Athletic Club and to retire here."

Williams penned a stunning nine-year contract with the Spanish outfit in the middle of August and the agreement is said to include a release clause worth £121m.

Bilbao have made a strong start to the season with seven points on the board after just three league games. Willians scored in the recent 2-0 triumph over Real Sociedad.
