Hes a leader, Frank Lampard praises experienced attacker after Chelseas win over Southampton

Willian praised by Lampard

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has praised Willian's leadership qualities following the club's 4-1 Premier League triumph over Southampton on the road.

Willian had gone into the game on the back of goals in successive matches and he continued the good form by laying the assist for Mason Mount's goal at St Mary's.

Speaking after the game, Lampard hailed the performance of Willian and said that he has been leading from the front with the displays on the playing field.

He told BBC Sport: "I must say I thought Willian was immense - he is an example in what he was doing on and off the ball. He's a leader - not one that shouts - but in how he performs."

Willian's current deal with the Blues expires at the end of the campaign but the club are said to be preparing discussions over a contract extension with Lampard regarding him as an important player.

Chelsea are currently fifth in the league standings and they are trailing fourth-placed Leicester City on just goal difference. They are scheduled to host Newcastle United after the international break.
