United legend Scholes thinks club should sign Mesut Ozil
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has called on the Old Trafford outfit to make a January transfer move for Arsenal's out of favour midfielder Mesut Ozil. The German World Cup winning playmaker has been forced out of the club's squad by manager Unai Emery, leading many to speculate that he will be departing the club in the January transfer window.
Scholes thinks that Ozil would help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's struggling United side and that the club should make a cut price move for the midfielder.
“Man Utd could do with someone like Ozil who can link a team together,’ Scholes told BT Sport. “[He is] a player who can link teams together. He has got great quality, he’s shown that in his career.
“He could be an answer short-term, I don’t know. I think that would be up to him, ultimately. I can’t [see it happening], but he’s the type of player, short-term, who United could do with.”
Ozil is reportedly available for a fee of around £20 million, and Turkish duo Besiktas and Fenerbahce are closely monitoring the situation.
