Everton manager Marco Silva has acknowledged that Manchester United were one of the clubs in the running to sign Richarlison during last summer's transfer window.

The Brazil international had an impressive debut season with the Toffees last term where he contributed 13 league goals and that led to speculation that he could pursue a bigger challenge elsewhere.

Among the clubs linked, United were tipped to swoop for his services but nothing of that sort materialised and Daniel James was the only forward signing for the club in the transfer window.

Speaking in a press conference, Silva has now revealed that there was indeed some interest from United in Richarlison but the Toffees were clear with their not-for-sale stance.

"I believe it is not just Manchester United. I believe it is some more. As a club we have to keep our best players," he was quoted as saying by The Mirror ahead of the Merseyside derby.

Earlier today, Richarlison was rewarded with a fresh five-year contract with the Toffees. He has been in decent form this season with four goals and two assists in the top-flight.
