Torres wins it for the Reds again

Fernando Torres drives the Reds forward with a good strike and Liverpool take five points lead over Everton for the coveted fourth Champions League position.

It was his first Merseyside derby and what a day he had! He was committed, motivated and spirited to get a win. It is none other than El Nino who scored the winner.

The match started with the usual high tempo Liverpool are linked with and they got the result with just six minutes on the clock.

It was a defensive lapse which cost the goal for Everton, Yakubu was caught trying to turn with the ball just outside his own box. He was robbed of the ball and Torres was played in, with Howard charging and a defender trying to slide in, he kept his cool and had a neat finish. He showed great composure in sending the ball to the back of the net.

After the first strike, Liverpool did not build on it to find another goal. Everton was defensive and the first-half was dominated by the Reds. Even then, only Torres looked dangerous as both teams lacked creativity.

The second half was dull and lacked the tempo with players losing possession far too cheaply. Neither team could control the game and Everton never looked to threaten Liverpool defence.

This is a good result for Liverpool who are yet to face Arsenal in the coming Champions League fixture and will certainly boost Torres's confidence. He has 28 goals in his name this season, a feat not accomplished by any Liverpool player since Robbie Fowler.
