Manchester United are reported to have turned down the chance to sign Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Braut Haaland prior to his move to Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland had been hotly tipped to join the Red Devils during the January transfer window with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer holding a strong relationship with the forward, whom he managed at former club Molde.

According to ESPN, the Red Devils were the favourites to sign the Norway international until they disagreed on terms presented by the player's agent Mino Raiola.

Raiola is said to have proposed the inclusion of a buy-out clause and the assurance of a percentage of the future fee and United are understood to have rejected Haaland because of the same.

Haaland, who has netted 28 goals at the club level this term, is scheduled to officially join Dortmund at the turn of the year. They have bought him for a bargain price of £20m after triggering the release clause on his Red Bull Salzburg contract.
