Arsenal have reportedly told Hertha Berlin that they must meet their asking price in order to secure the services of wantaway midfielder Granit Xhaka.

The Swiss's agent recently confirmed that personal terms have been agreed with the Bundesliga side and the deal could be finalised at the turn of the year.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has opted to keep quiet on the speculation but Sky Italy claims that the former Gunners captain could yet leave the club next month.

Hertha are deemed to have offered a package of around £29.5m for Xhaka but the Gunners are adamant that they won't sanction his sale unless their £34m asking price is met.

Xhaka was not part of the matchday squad for the 2-1 Premier League defeat at Chelsea. Following the game, Arteta was indeed bed-ridden for the past few days and it has nothing to do with his future at the club.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach man has made 16 appearances in all competitions for the club this term. He has more than three years remaining on his existing deal.
