Chelsea to make late raid for Paris Saint-Germain star?
Chelsea are reportedly planning a late move to sign Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain after they decided against upping their offer for Napoli's Dries Mertens.
The Blues had recently made a £5m bid to sign the Belgian whose contract expires in the summer but the offer has been knocked back by Napoli, who are said to demand three times of that figure.
As a result, the Blues have switched their attention back to Cavani, whose move to Atletico Madrid recently fell through as the Spanish club could not meet the financial package.
Cavani is reluctant to accept anything less than £300,000-a-week in wages from his next club but Blues manager Frank Lampard is nonetheless keen on landing the marksman from Parc des Princes.
Still, they face a similar situation to that of Mertens, given Les Parisiens have placed a £15m price tag on the player's head and may be reluctant to negotiate on the value prior to the English transfer deadline on Friday night.
