Newcastle United want to sign Manchester United defender

Jones wanted by Newcastle

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce is reportedly prepared to offer a Premier League lifeline for out-of-favour Manchester United defender Phil Jones.

Jones has been with the Red Devils for the past eight-and-a-half years but during this period, he has made over 220 appearances for the club across all competitions.

However, his gametime has drastically reduced in the past couple of years due to persistent injury concerns and he is currently regarded as the fourth-choice centre-back behind Maguire, Lindelof and Bailly.

According to The Mirror, Jones appears set to head through the exit door this summer after managing just two league appearances during the course of the current campaign.

The same outlet claims that the Magpies may seek to land his signature with Bruce wanting a new centre-back with vast Premier League and Champions League experience.

Jones only signed a new long-term deal with United last year. He has more than three years left on his existing contract with the option for another 12 months, if required.
