Arsenal close to signing Thomas Partey?
The father of Thomas Partey has confirmed that Arsenal have been in talks with the midfielder regarding a summer move away from Atletico Madrid.
The Ghana international has been a key figure in the holding midfield role for the Spanish outfit and he has made nearly 180 appearances in all competitions.
His current deal with a £43.5m release clause expires in the summer of 2023 but Atletico have reportedly started negotiations over a new long-term contract with the plan of doubling his wages and buy-out clause.
Amidst this, Jacob has confirmed that the north London side are indeed in contact with his son and he would be pleased if the deal materialises in the coming months.
"I called my son after hearing the rumours and he told me that the rumours are true," he told Tru FM. He told me they are holding talks between him and Arsenal. It all depends on the offer Atletico are demanding. If he goes to Arsenal fine, they have a lot supporters in Ghana."
Partey has also been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City previously but the Gunners remain the long-term admirers, having missed out on his signature last summer.
