Frank Lampard in regular contact with Belgian star
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is reportedly in constant communication with Dries Mertens as he aims to lure the forward on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The Belgian's deal with Napoli expires during the summer and reports have claimed that he may pursue a new challenge rather than extending his stay with the Serie A side.
The Blues, Liverpool and Newcastle United have all been linked with the versatile forward but Lampard is aiming to steal the march, having been in regular contact with the player, as per Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.
Mertens, who is Napoli's joint all-time scorer with 121 goals, was tipped to join the Blues during the winter transfer window but he eventually made the decision to stay put in Naples.
He has been hampered with a few injuries this term but has still impressed from the striker's position with 12 goals and six assists from 29 appearances across all competitions.
