Frank Lampard confirms contract talks with experienced winger
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that talks are underway with Willian regarding a fresh long-term contract.
The Brazilian recently signed a short-term extension with the Blues and he is assured of remaining with the club until the end of the season.
Lampard has previously highlighted the importance of Willian and he has now confirmed that the club are looking to keep the winger for the longer term.
"Yes we are still talking with the players and Willian in particular we are talking with him. I always felt confident that they would remain," he was quoted as saying by Goal.com.
Willian is said to want a three-year extension, but the Blues have been reluctant to offer him more than a two-year contract due to their policy for players above the age of 30.
The 31-year-old appears unlikely to change his stance anytime soon and it remains to be seen whether the Blues will accept the player's demands, given he remains a regular starter for Lampard.
Willian has bagged seven goals and six assists for the Blues this term. He is likely to make the starting XI when the club take on Manchester City at home on Thursday night.
